Casting for actors is currently taking place in Los Angeles, New York, Detroit, and Johannesburg, South Africa for the Lionsgate feature film Machine Gun Preacher. The film is based on a true story. Gerard Butler has signed on to play the reformed bad guy Sam Childers, a drug-dealing biker who found God and became the scourge of rebel forces who kidnap children in Sudan and Northern Uganda.

Michelle Monaghan has signed on to play Childers’ wife, Lynn, who cleaned up her own demons while Childers did a stretch behind bars, and struggled to keep their family together in Detroit while he went to Africa to establish an orphanage to house 300 children.

Marc Forster will direct the film and his company, Apparatus Productions, will co-produce with Lionsgate. Forster has directed such films as Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland, and Quantum of Solace. He is repped by Todd Feldman at Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

May 19, 2010 Michelle Monaghan’s Sexy Blue Dress At The ‘Prince Of Persia’ Premiere

Michelle Monaghan showed up in a cute navy blue blue dress at the “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” Los Angeles Premiere yesterday. We’re not sure how we feel about the draped bow on the skirt, but overall we like the sequins on her waist and shoulder.

The actress recently landed a role in “Machine Gun Preacher” starring Gerard Butler. Butler will be playing the real-life hero Sam Childers, a former biker gang member who became a missionary after finding religion in 1992 and going to Africa. Michelle will play his wife, a woman who cleans up her own act and takes care of the kids back home while her husband is overseas.

Shooting for the film begins this summer.

The project’s script was written by Jason Keller and is based on Childers’ memoir, “Another Man’s War: The True Story of One Man’s Battle to Save Children in the Sudan.”

Butler will be playing the real-life hero Sam Childers, a former biker gang member who became a missionary after finding religion in 1992 and going to Africa. He and his wife operate the charitable organization Angels of East Africa, the Children’s Village Orphanage in Sudan.

Monaghan is playing Childers’ wife, Lynn, and Shannon is in talks to play a close friend of Childers.

Oct 10, 2009 Road Talk with ‘Trucker’ Star Michelle Monaghan

Oscar voters often love it when beautiful models, or starlets accustomed to playing the one-dimension girlfriend roles, reveal that they can actually be serious actresses when given a chance. The transformation has worked for the likes of Jessica Lange and Charlize Theron in the past – and this year, Michelle Monaghan looks to be shaking up the perceptions of people used to seeing her in the likes of “Made of Honor” and “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” with her tough, subtle work in James Mottern’s “Trucker.”

Yesterday, Roger Ebert gave the film four stars and announced, “Her performance clearly deserves an Oscar nomination.” Monaghan clearly remains a longshot in the category, but if nothing else a little buzz might tempt a few more viewers to check out the spare, finely-drawn, understated drama, which opens in a few theaters today and rolls out to more over the next few weeks. Considering that the film has been making the festival route for much of the last two years, the actress welcomes the attention.
